OSU Ambassador**
Dr. Christo Buizert is an associate professor in the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences of Oregon State University. His work uses ice cores from Greenland and Antarctica to reconstruct and understand past climate change. Natural climate variations through geologic time provide a natural experiment to better understand the dynamics and sensitivity of the climate System. His research group measures the composition of Earth’s past atmosphere from bubbles trapped in the ice. He combines laboratory work with climate models and other tools to gain a deeper insight into Earth’s past. His work has made important contributions to our understanding of the global impact of past abrupt climate change related to instabilities in the Atlantic Ocean circulation. He has participated in scientific expeditions to both Greenland and Antarctica to drill ice cores. He is currently the director of the Center for Oldest Ice Exploration (COLDEX), a large multi-institution scientific effort to explore Antarctica for the oldest possible ice core records of our planet’s climate and environmental history.
