Dam Good Connections: Building Bridges Through Conversation

Great connections often start with a good conversation. Join fellow Beavers and friends in Portland to meet new people, exchange ideas and build useful skills at the Oregon Historical Society.

Connect with local Beavs over heavy appetizers and drinks, then join an interactive conversation with an Oregon State University faculty expert exploring practical, research-informed ways to navigate conversations when perspectives differ.

Meet the OSU faculty experts:

Elizabeth Marino, professor of anthropology and associate dean for academic affairs at OSU-Cascades, studies how people perceive risk and make sense of changing social and environmental conditions. Her work offers insight into how our experiences and perspectives shape the way we understand the world around us.

Erika Allen Wolters, associate professor of political science in the OSU School of Public Policy, researches the intersection of science, politics and policy. In the classroom, she brings together students with different backgrounds and perspectives to explore American government and political issues.

Christopher Stout, professor of political science in the OSU School of Public Policy, studies public opinion, political behavior, elections and representation, including the role of race and gender in American politics.

Together, they’ll bring their research and classroom experience to a timely discussion about what shapes our perspectives, why we sometimes see the same issues so differently and how we can better engage across those differences.

You’ll leave with fresh insights and helpful strategies for finding common ground, even when you don’t see eye to eye.
