The Schoenstein Sustaining Excellence Scholarship

The Schoenstein Sustaining Excellence Scholarship is offered by the OSU Alumni Association to honor and recognize OSU undergraduates who are community-engaged leaders actively involved in activities beyond coursework and who have demonstrated that they are committed to advancing a more caring and equitable OSU and/or local community. Selection of recipients is coordinated by OSUAA in partnership with Community Engagement & Leadership.

Award: This year the Schoenstein Sustaining Excellence Scholarship Fund will award seven (7) students a one-time scholarship in the amount of $2,000.00.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • OSU undergraduate students, including international students, who have completed at least one year of enrollment at OSU, or another college or university (2-year or 4-year).
  • Students from all OSU campuses may apply.

Evaluation Criteria:

  • Leadership Practices (How): Exhibits leadership practices such as self-reflection, teamwork, collaboration and coalition building, communication, initiative, resilience, humility, empathy, problem-solving, resourcefulness, critical thinking, inclusion, sensitivity to and awareness of inequity and vision for a better, more equitable world.
  • Leadership Goals (Why): Pursues leadership goals that give involvement direction, purpose and meaning.
  • Involvement Progression (What): Demonstrates involvement that is progressing or evolving in depth or breadth over time. Seeks additional experiences, connections, opportunities and perspectives. This may include but is not limited to: clubs/organizations, community service programs, campus-based involvement, on-campus or off-campus employment, leadership in the OSU community, participating in cultural programming, participating in diversity, equity and inclusion programming or trainings, student government and/or advocacy and activism for social causes.
  • Positive Impact & Contributions to Community (Impact): Advances positive impact and contributions to the OSU and/or local community to advance a more caring, equitable and socially just community; does so through a variety of strategies or actions.
